facial features despite being a male MMA fighter. A key characteristic of this is his long dark eyelashes and slender face. He has three stone markings; one across his face that cuts across his right eye, another etched deep into his left one from the corner of his eyelid all the way down across his nose and ends at the bottom of his jaw on the right, and the other being stretched across from his left shoulder over his chest and stopping at his upper abdomen.

After years of MMA fighting, Tsukasa has gained permanently swollen knuckles found on his index finger, middle finger, and ring finger. Before humanity was petrified, Tsukasa had wavy dark brown hair he’s been growing out since he was little. Post-petrification he’s kept remnants of stone on the tips of his hair.

Tsukasa is essentially violent but extremely careful and aware of his actions. He is a very kind, thoughtful, and polite man outside his pessimistic ideals towards humanity. He offers help in the beginning to Senku and Taiju after they revive him and becomes their hunter for food, using his skills as a prominent athlete to aid them. It’s revealed later that Tsukasa plans to purge humanity and thinks Senku will go along with him, but instead Senku rejects him. After this point, Tsukasa becomes fairly determined in carrying out his plans even to the point of leaving their group. He’s confessed to Senkuu he doesn’t care about anyone but himself, though in the latter half of the story it’s revealed that Tsukasa loves his sister Mirai more than anything in the world and that is where his resilience comes from so he can save her.

He also reveals that Senku could’ve been his first friend pre-petrification as to which Senkuu agrees. From this angle, we can assume Tsukasa shuts himself off from others and only focuses on saving his sister. He’s naturally withdrawn outside of his goals. He tends to hate humans who control and manipulate others. By his actions, it is possible to assume that Tsukasa hates any hierarchy or practice of power. His goal is to create a society without technological advancement and he uses any means to achieve that objective; creating his own empire modeled on his twisted views of humanity.

Though to note, there are many points in the story that exploit Tsukasa's psychotic behavior. One instance is when he first breaks a stone statue and has no remorse, continuing to crush more in his wake. He particularly goes after older adults and elderly people, but specifically leaves children alone. This can be related to his personal background and history of being assaulted and abused by those in authority. He also ends up taking Yuzuriha hostage in order to gain the Revival Formula. Tsukasa also by no means wants to resort to fighting or killing but will do so if he feels pressured or his vision for humanity is at stake. This can be shown when he ended up killing Senku after sharing a tender moment of wishing they could've met 3,700 years later.

Since his second revival, Tsukasa has mellowed out. Now loyal to the Kingdom of Science. Tsukasa forgives his former faction for turning on him. He even respects Ryusui a bit, having eavesdropped on the man's explanation on how he sees money as not a way to control humans, but a small factor in helping bring together others to bring out the best in humanity.

On the voyage to the United States, he explained that his new role in the Kingdom of Science is, upon everyone's revival, to prevent the corruption that he once tried to destroy at the source from tainting the world of science that Senku will build.

Tsukasa's reputation gained him the moniker of "The Strongest High School Primate" due to his tremendous fighting abilities, and is one of the strongest characters in terms of fighting ability.mm Even Hyoga acknowledged his skill and had to wait for Tsukasa to be vulnerable to betray him. Senku and most characters even questioned at times whether or not Tsukasa was human because of his immense physical capabilities. The Kingdom of Science are also reassured that with him on their side they would not have to worry about facing hostile enemies.

* Immense Physical Prowess: True to his epithet, Tsukasa possesses physical capabilities head and shoulders above the rest of the cast.
True to his epithet, Tsukasa possesses an extreme amount of strength and is an highly proficient combatant. He was able to defeat lions. He also managed to cut down a tree with one strike of his stone sword, a tree which Senku noted to weigh 1 ton. Tsukasa's speed and reflexes are also equal to his strength. When Senku fired an arrow with a crossbow, Tsukasa managed to grab the said arrow with his bare hand. Senku later noted that the crossbow fired at 200 kilometers per hour. He was also able to parry all of Kohaku's swift attacks during their battle with apparent ease.

  +
* Immense Strength: Tsukasa possesses immense brawn. With one punch, he was able to kill the leader of a pride of lions, scaring the rest of the pride off.m One punch from Tsukasa was able to push Taiju, a man noted for his inhuman endurance, to the brink of losing consciousness.m While briefly clashing with Kohaku, Tsukasa stopped her assault with only two fingers. He also managed to cut down a tree with a single strike from his stone sword, a tree that Senku noted to weigh 1 ton.m During his time in America, Tsukasa was able to hunt and kill large American Alligators with help from the other warriors.
Equipment
After being freed from his petrification, Tsukasa wielded a primitive looking spear with a stone blade to hunt for fish with it. The hilt broke partially later on, effectively making the weapon into a sword. He appears to be highly skilled in wielding it during combat. The stone sword is sturdy enough to cut wood with it.

  +
* Immense Speed: Tsukasa's speed and reflexes are equally immense. When Senku shot a crossbow bolt at Tsukasa, he simply caught the bolt with his bare handm, with Senku later noting that the bolts moved at 200 km/h. He was also able to easily parry all of Kohaku's swift attacks during their quick scuffle.m
History
When he was younger, Tsukasa was picking out seashells on the beach to make a necklace for his sister Mirai because she wanted to be a princess like Ariel in the Little Mermaid (1989). At this time his sister was clinically confirmed to be brain dead. In the event of him choosing seashells, an old, drunk, fisherman comes and beats Tsukasa to the point his face was unrecognizable. The fisherman justifies his assault behind him owning a fishing permit in the area and Tsukasa was trespassing. From then on, Tsukasa somehow managed to train and find his way to the MMA so he could support his sister's life and defend himself by all means. He ends on becoming a well known MMA fighter nicknamed the "Strongest Highschool Primate" in the combat sport.

  +
* Hand-to-Hand Proficiency: Perhaps the only thing more impressive than Tsukasa's physical capabilities is his hand-to-hand combat skill. He had dominated the UFC while only in high school, and remained undefeated throughout his career. Tsukasa's fighting styles seem to derive from many martial arts, as he demonstrates knowledge of techniques from many martial arts like Muay Thai and Taekwondo. As a mixed martial artist, it could be inferred that he has extensive knowledge of Martial Arts in general. His skill is prominently shown when he fought the warriors of Stanley's military unit, despite their years of combat experience. He also easily defeated Maya Biggs, a fellow MMA champion and even sent her flying.

* Swordsmanship: He also shows that he is an able swordsman as well, wielding his stone blade with high proficiency.

* Enhanced Senses: He has acute senses, as he sensed a bloodlust in the air and smelt a faintness of smoke blowing and realized it came from a gun.m

  +
* Enhanced Durability: Even when mortally wounded, he was able to keep up with Hyoga if only for a little while. After being shot by the American soldiers, Tsukasa was able to survive all the way to night and survived long enough until the second Petrification beam.
Communications Arc
  +
* Gifted Intelligence: In addition to his physical prowess, Tsukasa possesses a high intellect. After Senku, it's confirmed by Riichiro Inagaki that Tsukasa would have the highest grades and ties with Chrome in a school setting. Tsukasa also states that Senku is the only man he has met who is smarter than him by massive inquiring levels. From this, it's assumed that Tsukasa has spent most of his life alienated from social customs because of his prime intelligence (feeling that no one would understand him) and current predicament with his clinically brain-dead sister, Mirai. Even though Senku made it look like Taiju, Yuzuriha and escaped from Tsukasa in panic, he quickly deduced Senku is smart enough to try and trick him and rational enough not to condone to such behavior.m It is assumed that Tsukasa possesses knowledge of human physiology at least to a degree, having been able to "kill" Senku in one hit, targeting his cervical nerve.m He also has a high understanding of science on par with Senku and Chrome, as he realized it was nitric acid that was the key to de petrification and when he understood that Senku was going to make gunpowder based on where Senku's group was heading. He was also replicated the full de petrification formula after Senku explained it to him once. When in America, he was able to deduce someone was watching them after smelling smoke of machine gun, while Hyoga realized how easy it was to find corn and he was accurate when they were attacked.m He also deduced to have a better chance at bringing down the American colony would be that the leader would have to be captured. Along with Ukyo, he was able to understand Chrome's plan to build a drill.m
Trivia
  +
* Charisma: As a popular figure in the pre-Stone World and being a strong capable leader, he is very charismatic and able to gather people to his cause. He managed to gather people he revived to follow him under his reign and against the Kingdom of Science, though people did start rebelling once they learned it was possible to go back to a world with science. Despite this, having sided with the Kingdom of Science, he is still capable of motivating people and inspiring them. He can also assure them that things will be fine and demonstrates continued leadership as leader of the battle team of the Kingdom of Science.

"This stone world... is a paradise not yet to be tamed! Let's just revive the innocent, young people. We'll live together in nature, which doesn't belong to someone else. This is an opportunity to cleanse humanity!"

— Tsukasa Shishio, Dr. Stone, Chapter 4

Tsukasa Shishio (獅子王司 Shishiō Tsukasa) is the former primary antagonist of Dr. Stone. He was the antagonist of the first several arcs, his goal being to thin out the human population in order to create a new world without modern technology for the pure-hearted youth.

Despite his claims that no threat would come after Senku and Taiju, which proved ironic,[11] Tsukasa became one of the biggest obstacles to Senku's Kingdom of Science and restoring humanity as a whole in general.

In order to fight and prevent Senku from establishing a scientifically advanced civilization, he goes on to found his own society comprised of strong warriors to further his agenda. Eventually coming to a stalemate, he forms a temporary truce with Senku after the latter proposed to save his sister and, having reaffirmed his promise to never again let Senku be harmed, ultimately defeats the traitorous Hyoga along with him.

After his life was saved by Senku by de-petrifying him from his cryogenic state, Tsukasa joins the Kingdom of Science and embarks with them on their trip to the United States, channeling his ideals differently - yet still striving for a morally pure world without exploitation of the innocent.

Appearance

Tsukasa Shishio Icons

Tsukasa is a very tall and muscular young man with wild, brown hair that he has been growing since childhood with bits of stone near the ends, and pale skin. He has an androgynous face and is stated to be handsome by Minami Hokutozai, though he often wears an intimidating frown on his face. His height is 195 cm.[2]

He has three stone markings: one across his face that cuts across his right eye, another etched deep into his left one from the corner of his eyelid all the way down across his nose and ends at the bottom of his jaw on the right, and the third being stretched across from his left shoulder over his chest and stopping at his upper abdomen.

After years of MMA fighting, Tsukasa gained permanently swollen knuckles on his index, middle and ring fingers.

His initial outfit is a crude red yukata and cloak made from a lion that he killed to protect Senku and Taiju. He used its pelt as a coat that he wore around or draped across his shoulders. He wears no shoes. Once he meets Senku after a year after believing he had killed him, he wears a cream pelt shirt with his torn yukata as a skirt.

After being revived from cryosleep, Tsukasa's scars are removed and replaced with hand-drawn ones.[12]

While traveling the Amazon Rainforest, Tsukasa wore rubber boots,[13] then replaced them with sack-like shoes similar to Senku's original ones after he was revived.[14]

Personality

Tsukasa is essentially violent, but extremely careful and aware of his actions. He is a very kind, thoughtful, and polite man outside of his pessimistic ideals towards humanity. He offers help in the beginning to Senku and Taiju after they revive him and becomes their hunter for food, using his skills as a prominent athlete to aid them. It’s revealed later that Tsukasa plans to purge humanity and thinks Senku will go along with him, but instead Senku rejects him.[15] After this point, Tsukasa becomes fairly determined in carrying out his plans even to the point of leaving their group. He’s confessed to Senku that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself[16], though in the latter half of the story, it’s revealed that Tsukasa loves his sister Mirai more than anything in the world and that is where his resilience comes from, so he can save her.

He also reveals that Senku could’ve been his first friend pre-petrification[17], to which Senku agrees. His goal is to create a society without technological advancement and he uses any means to achieve that objective; creating his own empire modeled on his narrow views of humanity. More specifically, a world without addictive drugs, guns and nuclear and chemical weapons.

Though to note, there are many points in the story that explore Tsukasa's aggressive behavior. One instance is when he first breaks a stone statue and shows no remorse, continuing to crush more in his wake. He particularly goes after older adults and elderly people, but specifically leaves children alone. This can be related to his personal background and history of being assaulted and abused by those in authority. He also ends up taking Yuzuriha hostage in order to gain the Revival Formula. Tsukasa also by no means wants to resort to fighting or killing, but will do so if he feels pressured or his vision for humanity is at stake. This is seen when he ended up killing Senku after sharing a tender moment of wishing they could've met 3,700 years earlier.

Tsukasa has a code of respect which he abides by. He claims that even when killed in self-defense, a lion's meat should not be put to waste, thereby respecting it and the cycle of life.[18] He also has no intention of making anyone suffer, and when forced to kill, he kills as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Abilities and Skills

Tsukasa's reputation gained him the moniker of "The Strongest High School Primate" due to his tremendous fighting abilities, and is one of the strongest characters in terms of fighting ability.[19][20] Even Hyoga acknowledged his skill and had to wait for Tsukasa to be vulnerable to betray him. Senku and most characters even questioned at times whether or not Tsukasa was human because of his immense physical capabilities. The Kingdom of Science are also reassured that with him on their side they would not have to worry about facing hostile enemies.

However, he is not invincible as he noted the dangers of the Amazon rainforest would be hazardous even for him and voiced his uncertainty in facing Stanley Snyder again.

Tsukasa cutting down a tree

Tsukasa cuts down a tree with his stone sword.

 • Immense Physical Prowess: True to his epithet, Tsukasa possesses physical capabilities head and shoulders above the rest of the cast.
 • Immense Strength: Tsukasa possesses immense brawn. With one punch, he was able to kill the leader of a pride of lions, scaring the rest of the pride off.[21] One punch from Tsukasa was able to push Taiju, a man noted for his inhuman endurance, to the brink of losing consciousness.[22] While briefly clashing with Kohaku, Tsukasa stopped her assault with only two fingers. He also managed to cut down a tree with a single strike from his stone sword, a tree that Senku noted to weigh 1 ton.[23] During his time in America, Tsukasa was able to hunt and kill large American Alligators with help from the other warriors.
 • Immense Speed: Tsukasa's speed and reflexes are equally immense. When Senku shot a crossbow bolt at Tsukasa, he simply caught the bolt with his bare hand[24], with Senku later noting that the bolts moved at 200 km/h. He was also able to easily parry all of Kohaku's swift attacks during their quick scuffle.[25]
 • Hand-to-Hand Proficiency: Perhaps the only thing more impressive than Tsukasa's physical capabilities is his hand-to-hand combat skill.
 • Swordsmanship: He also shows that he is an able swordsman as well, wielding his stone blade with high proficiency.
 • Enhanced Senses: He has acute senses, as he sensed a bloodlust in the air and smelt a faintness of smoke blowing and realized it came from a gun.[26]
 • Enhanced Durability: Even when mortally wounded, he was able to keep up with Hyoga if only for a little while. After being shot by the American soldiers, Tsukasa was able to survive all the way to night and survived long enough until the second Petrification beam.
 • Gifted Intelligence: In addition to his physical prowess, Tsukasa possesses a high intellect. Even though Senku made it look like Taiju, Yuzuriha and escaped from Tsukasa in panic, he quickly deduced Senku is smart enough to try and trick him and rational enough not to condone to such behavior.[27] It is assumed that Tsukasa possesses knowledge of human physiology at least to a degree, having been able to "kill" Senku in one hit, targeting his cervical nerve.[28] He also has a high understanding of science on par with Senku and Chrome, as he realized it was nitric acid that was the key to de petrification and when he understood that Senku was going to make gunpowder based on where Senku's group was heading. He was also replicated the full de petrification formula after Senku explained it to him once. When in America, he was able to deduce someone was watching them after smelling smoke of machine gun, while Hyoga realized how easy it was to find corn and he was accurate when they were attacked.[26] He also deduced to have a better chance at bringing down the American colony would be that the leader would have to be captured. Along with Ukyo, he was able to understand Chrome's plan to build a drill.[29]
 • Charisma: As a popular figure in the pre-Stone World and being a strong capable leader, he is very charismatic and able to gather people to his cause.

Equipment

After being freed from his petrification, Tsukasa began wielding a primitive-looking spear with a stone blade to hunt for fish. The shaft broke later on, effectively turning the spear into a sword. The stone blade is sturdy enough to cut through trees.

Following his second revival, Tsukasa is occasionally seen wielding a large two-sided buster sword.[30]

Trivia

 • Tsukasa's name is composed of "tsukasa" ( director; official; officer) while his surname Shishio is composed of "shishi" (獅子 lion) and "ō" ( king) to create "shishiō" (獅子王 lion king).
 • Tsukasa placed 10th in the popularity poll.
 • Tsukasa placed 5th in the Second Popularity poll with 1073 votes.
 • Tsukasa's original goal to create a classless society without modern science or technology is similar to that of an anarcho-primitivist.
 • Tsukasa was the first person in the story to establish an empire in Japan after the petrification event. However, his empire was established hundreds of years after the finding of the Ishigami Village (which is not an empire).
