Francois (フランソワ, Furansowa) is Ryusui's faithful butler whose services were well sought out and coveted even before the Petrification. They are revived by the Kingdom of Science as they require a chef to pull through long sea voyages. Francois's culinary expertise alongside their buttling and hospitality skills make them a crucial addition to the cast.

Appearance

Francois is a short person of very petite build and ambiguous gender. They have a round face with sharp eyes and often sport a serious expression, their hair is always arranged in neat corkscrew curls and likely much longer than it appears to be. Francois has a petrification scar in the shape of a star on the back of each hand, but they're rarely visible as they often wear gloves.

Francois is typically seen in their butler uniform; a dark blazer with striped cuffs and padded shoulders, a striped sash, a light colored ascot, medium length and slightly flared pants, and light colored boots with tall heels. When baking or cooking they wear a white long-sleeved baker's uniform, likely over their regular butler's attire and they also sport a white baker's hat.

The star-like scars on their hands disappeared after their second revival, but they soon recreate them with war paint alongside the rest of the Kingdom of Science following Tsukasa's revival.

Personality

Francois is an incredibly hardworking and driven individual, with an outstanding ability to work under duress, they truly take pride in their work and never fail to tackle any challenge that may arise.

They usually appear pleasant, calm and collected, as it's part of their work ethos, but like with anything they do, they don't skimp on showing emotion when its due. Francois truly loves their job as a butler and they take great pride in delivering the best service possible. Their job is so entwined with their everyday life that it crosses the barrier to being their general lifestyle and they are very keen to expand their already vast skill set.

Francois generally enjoys making people happy with their service, and often thinks one step ahead, preparing things before they are even asked for. Francois also has a tendency to hide their fatigue and only take breaks when no-one can see them.

Abilities and Skills

• Butling: Francois is an incredibly skilled butler, being so proficient in their job that they are hired by the Nanami Corp, a company with trillions of yen in net worth. While in their line of work, Francois has picked up several skills that benefit them as a butler.

• Master Chef: Francois holds an encyclopedic knowledge on foods and cooking in general, being able to not just cook but bake and bartend as well. Among all the master chefs in Japan, Francois is one of the top.
  • Cooking: One of the key reasons Francois was revived was because the Kingdom of Science were in need of a cook, and Francois sure does pay off. As soon as Senku asks for bread that would last for a longtime, Francois immediately recommends Goats Gift Stollen, showing that they hold an encyclopedic knowledge on foods and cooking in general. Francois scores a 5/5 in Cooking Skills in their worker file, showing just how skilled they are in it. Francois can whip up anything from a burger to high class cuisine.
  • Baking: Francois is an expert baker, with knowledge on all kinds of breads, befitting someone who often uses French phrases and wears the French flag. Francois has only ever been seen baking bread, but assuming they are an expert cook, Francois has the potential to bake other foods such as cookies and cakes.
  • Bartending: Francois is most commonly seen serving drinks to their guests. This can be tea, coffee, cocktails and even alcohol. Alongside their knowledge on cooking, Francois has amassed many formulas for drinks.

• Hospitality: One of the key parts of being a butler is to prioritize the comfort of the people you serve. Whether it is friend or foe, Francois always provides the guests hospitality. After the battle with Stanley is done and everyone is tired, Francois included, they prioritize the comfort of their guests before themselves. While traveling to America, Francois makes every individual on the ship a personalized drink, showing that Francois will do their best to make everyone of their guests feel comfortable and relaxed.

• Multilingual: Francois is able to speak Japanese, English and French. Although it is unknown whether Francois is French or Japanese, Francois speaks Japanese the most due to the majority of the Kingdom of Science being Japanese. Francois is completely fluent in these languages, being able to translate Japanese to English in just a second. They've also learnt Spanish while in South America, as well as Morse code.

• Babysitting: Francois shows great care for children, and this can be seen in their interactions with Suika, often being a parental figure and taking care of her. During Ryusui's flashback, Francois is the one who takes care of Ryusui. Francois is the one who relays the message to him that his allowance has been lowered and apologizes for it, and is the one who brings Ryusui his dinner. It's implied Francois mainly raised Ryusui over his family showing they have years of experience with children.

• First Aid: While not being a professional doctor, Francois knows basic first aid and is the first to treat Senku's wounds after he is shot. While Senku is bedridden recovering from being shot, Francois alongside Luna tends to Senku during his process of healing.

• Horticulture: While on the way to America, Francois uses the on board farm and plants to create the personalized drinks for everyone on board, and it can be assumed that Francois cultivates many of the products they use to cook and bake due to the limitations of the Stone World.

• Housekeeping: Francois is able to keep things in households neat and tidy, a common skill for butlers, this probably comes very handy in maintaining the Perseus during the long voyage to America, however we do not get a specific outline of what work they do themselves and what they share with the rest of the ship's crew.

• Office Work: While never shown doing office work in the manga, it is put as one of their skills in a Mecha Senku Q&A.

• Endurance: Francois, although hides any sense of tiredness, is able to walk for two days straight non stop and even after arriving at the Kingdom of Science was immediately prepared to start their job. Although on the surface Francois seems to hold never ending stamina, it is revealed in their worker file they rest when no one is watching, and that is just another part of the job.

• Observation: Upon seeing that Stanley didn't kill Suika or Ginro, Francois is immediately able to deduce that Stanley wont harm civilians, and carefully took the right course of action and surrendered claiming that they and Suika are doctors. This quick thinking prevented Suika and themselves from being killed.

Trivia

• Ryusui says he isn't sure what their actual name, gender, or even nationality is, as he never thought to ask.
  • Their name is usually written as "Francois" (フランソワ, Furansowa) but it might be "Francoise" (フランソワーズ , Furansowāzu).
  • It is very likely that they are intentionally kept mysterious as they did not receive a birthdate along with other characters, nor will Inagaki reveal anything to his own family.
• Francois' petrification mark, the starburst, is similar to the manga's visual effect when Ryusui snaps his fingers.
  • Similar star-shaped symbols are found on Luna's lower back, and drawn onto one of Kirisame's pocket pouches.
