Entrusting It All (
Summary[]
With Ryusui unable to keep it inside any longer, he asks Senku for his thoughts on whether it would be better to keep him as the pilot, or choose Stanley instead. After a moment of thinking, Senku agrees that Stanley would be the smarter choice.
The next morning, they ask Xeno what his thoughts are on sending Stanley to space. Unable to contain his excitement at the thought of having his best friend and partner back after so many years, he turns away and covers his reaction up by mentioning that they may team up to take over the world again. Ryusui insists it's not a problem with how much of society is back.
Later, they inform the others of the plan to revive Stanley, and several of them are seriously shocked at it as Stanley had attempted to or literally had killed them before. They explain that Tsukasa will act as a guard for Xeno in the case Stanley goes rogue, but no one really expects him to as Stanley's a good soldier who follows orders. Chelsea asks Ryusui if he's really okay with giving up his rocket seat, and Ryusui forces a smile and replies that he's a good pilot, but a bad shot.
They return to the waterfall cave where Stanley's statue is being kept, and revive him. In a quiet moment of reunion, Xeno hands Stanley a brand new lighter and cigarette, which he lights up in a rather intimate scene. Stanley then asks what the job is. Rather than telling him directly, Xeno quizzes Stan with a physics problem, which he answers quickly and accurately. Xeno asks if he's up to the task, and Stanley gazes at Xeno's face for a moment, tilting it up towards him, before saying that he is.
That evening at the firing range, Ryusui continues training with his pistol. He's able to hit the targets but they're not bullseyes. When Francois approaches, he tells them that he's polishing his skills as the backup pilot. Francois commends him for his selflessness and calls him noble as a means of comforting him, but Ryusui breaks down and cries about how much he wanted this.
Hiding in the bushes behind them, Stanley overhears the whole conversation. After he's done crying, Ryusui aims his pistol once more, but before he can fire, Stanley shoots all the bullseyes.
The rocket team is now Senku, Kohaku, and Stanley.
