Re-Lock On (
Summary[]
As the kingdom of science prepares to face Stanley, the Perseus is finally done being converted into an aircraft carrier; with a pneumatic catapult that allows to launch their captured airplane into the air despite the short runway. Without further delay, the kingdom gets aloft, the aircraft being piloted by Ryusui and accompanied by Senku wielding a fake machine gun. The only firearm they are equipped is still the crude pistol that Yo was carrying.
The worried crew of the Perseus watches as the planes try to get a lock on each other for a shoot down, their maneauvers are explained to them by Tetsuya, who is familiar with them due to illustrating a military themed manga (apparently named 'WW4').
The haphazardly mended aircraft piloted by Ryusui suddenly malfunctioned due to the rupture of a linkage between two connecting rods; Senku was quick to repair it as Stanley got behind them.
Their speed was not enough to lose Stanley, so to use this against him, a sharp left turn was taken and he overshot past them. They were now behind him.
In light of this situation, Stanley retaliated with a maneuver named the high speed yo-yo: He takes his plane on a sharp upward turn, converting all the speed he had moving horizontally into a vertical shot, then allowing for quickly regaining speed with a fast descent, placing him behind Senku and Ryusui after they flew past him.
Seeing that Stanley is ready to end their short lived fighter pilot careers, Ryusui builds the courage to attempt a maneuver he never attempted even in a modern aircraft: the Cobra maneuver. Stanley is dumbfounded when they try tris method on such a crude airplane, and even more so when it works out. Ryusui momentarily pulls the nose of the plane vertical and beyond, pointing slightly backwards (formally a 120° angle). The plane is stalled, and the vertical wings ramming into the air make for a very abrupt loss of speed, before levelling back down and just behind Stanley.
For this to be carried out, the engine had to be powerful enough to achieve a high enough initial speed so that even after losing so much of it, the plane will remain aloft. Also while the plane is vertical, the engine's thrust is what prevents the plane from losing much altitude, similar to an helicopter.
Stanley cannot fathom that the engine he was so familiar with suddenly could accomplish this performance. It's power was boosted after Senku commanded the plane be fueled with a special fuel mixture, finishing up with castor bean oil. A traditional and high performance aircraft engine lubricant. The oil had to be painstakingly extracted from the castor beans, but the desperate measure made the difference.
Ryusui alerts Senku that he's ready to do a combo move of his aim and his science. With the revolver in his videogame-trained right hand, Ryusui takes aim at Stanley.
