Those Who Have Faith (
Senku builds himself a shelter, the final necessity for his survival. At the end of his stamina, he collapses, and decides he'll need to revive his friend if he's got any hope of living longer. Returning to where he'd depetrified, he finds Taiju's manly hand sticking out of the ground. He digs him up, tearing up at seeing his friend's face again.
He begins thinking about what the cause of the Petrification could be: aliens, a mishap involving a secret military weapon of mass destruction, or a countagious disease. The lack of evidence means Senku must figure things out on his own. He analyzes his stone shell, and notices that certain areas that didn't erode much completely reverted back to stone. He decides that an external factor was key to his revival, and finds the Cave of Miracles dripping nitric acid. He tests it with a piece of stone still stuck to his hair, and it breaks off.
He collects some of the acid, pouring it on Taiju and waits. Nothing happens. He begins doing more tests with other statues and the swallows, realizing that he'd been thinking for the whole 3,700 years, consuming energy that must have come from somewhere, concluding it must have come from the stone. He wants to try using nital, an industrial etchant made by mixing nitric acid with alcohol, but he has none of the latter. He writes "E = MC2" on his collar, determined to solve the mystery. He drags Taiju's statue inside the cave, leaving him in the dripping acid, hoping prolonged exposure will wake him up, and with faith that inside the stone, Taiju is also awake.
