The Secret of Petrification is chapter one hundred and six of the Dr. Stone manga.
Summary
Amaryllis confesses to Senku and the others that she infact knows the secret behind the petrification beam. Five years ago a 13 year old Amaryllis boarded a small straw boat with four other villagers to set out to sea mocking their villages traditions of "Don't leave the island! Don't create anything new!" "If you break those rules, the master will turn you to stone with that inherited sorcery!!"
Time passes and the kids notice another boat is steadily approaching them, on that boat is the villagers two most strongest warriors Mozu and Kirisame! Who are there with the soul purpose of eliminating the rule breakers. Kirisame throws a mysterious weapon into the air that explodes above the kids boat creating a giant sphere of light.
As the sphere of light encroaches on the kids of the boat they all slowly begin to turn to stone, Amaryllis narrowly escaping as the light sphere stops expending only hitting her hair she escapes by diving into the ocean.
Present time Senku and Amaryllis come to the conclusion that the device that is petrifying people is a weapon and then all they have to do is steal it. Amaryllis then puts on a act to get Senku to help her for him to bluff her act and accept her offer.
Senku then thinks aloud about the purification device for him to realize there are three rules to the purification device making it reproducible making it something that isn't from a fantasy story but ...Science! Senku then states that they will fight back with their own science.
Amaryllis tells Senku and the others that "Every year the master visits each village and selects the prettiest girl over the age of 18 to join The Harem." and that she has been prettying herself up so she can infiltrate the harem to find and steal the purification weapon.
After discussing how dangerous it would be to infiltrate alone Kohaku volunteers to join Amaryllis in infiltrating the harem.
