Future Message (FUTURE (フューチャー) MESSAGE (メッセージ) Fyūchā Messēji) is the first chapter of the Dr. STONE: 4D Science limited series set shortly after the end of the Dr. Stone manga.

Summary[]

The chapter begins with a flashback to New Year's Eve when Senku was 10 years old, doing an experiment from on top of the Tokyo Skytree. The goal was to set up a radio receiver and wait for a message from Senku's future self to establish whether or not he ever succeeds in making a time machine. The new year arrives, and Senku voices his disappointment to Byakuya over a bowl of ramen, as there was no reply.

Back in the present, Xeno is hosting a conference explaining the plans for the time machine they intend to build. Many of the scientists believe it to be ridiculous, but Xeno continues to explain their plan to build a city on the moon in order to generate enough power for the theoretical machine. There is more argument from the attendees, frustrating Xeno who then leaves the conference room seething.

In the lab, Senku shows off the time machine blueprints that are newly completed, and Yo calls for a celebration. This reminds Chrome that he should probably marry Ruri. As soon as it's official, Chrome leaves to go back to the lab. There, he discusses with the other scientists a plan to send Morse code into the future using bursts of petrification waves so they can establish whether or not they're able to make a time machine, similar to what Senku did as a child. Despite Senku's failure, they decide to try again and set up a receiver tower and broadcast it live.

At the established time, nothing happens, but after a moment's pause, the receiver begins buzzing. After translating the Morse message, it reads "Hello to you all. Denizens of the past. My name is Byakuya Ishigami".

Characters in Order of Appearance[]

Chapter Notes[]

  • A flashback is shown of Taiju and Senku as children testing to see if he achieves time travel in the future.
  • A meeting is held for discussing the time travel development plan. It goes poorly.
  • Chrome and Ruri get married. Having completed the project from the last series, Chrome kept his promise.
  • A test similar to the one Senku tried as a child is set up to prove whether or not time travel will be possible in the future, resulting in a Morse code message.

Trivia[]

  • Xeno briefly regrets helping civilization rebuild upon getting scoffed at by New NASA; seeing that now all nations are back to what they were, they are now resuming competition to see who can outdo the other.
  • Only Xeno and Senku show that they can remain impartial when it comes to nationality; other NASA scientists worry about nations claiming the proposed moon city.
  • Senku admits he was never against romance, he just doesn't have time for it.
